Das Thema Open Access beschäftigt die Wissenschaft. Der SNF setzt sich für den freien Zugang zu Publikationen ein, die aus seiner Förderung hervorgehen. Um Open Access voran zu bringen, sind jedoch vor allem die Forschenden wichtig. Um den Bemühungen des SNF im Bereich Open Access auch eine Stimme aus den Fachgemeinschaften zu geben, sucht der SNF deshalb Open Access Botschafterinnen und Botschafter.

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) is searching for Open Access Ambassadors. These ambassadors represent researchers who are systematically supporting and forging ahead with open access, thereby setting an example for others to emulate. The ambassadors will be spotlighted in the context of the information campaign through various activities and will be deployed flexibly. Please find more details in the attachment.

We are pleased to announce and invite you to the Life Sciences PostDoc Day 2018, which will be held at ETH Zurich main building on the 14th of September.
This is an exciting networking and information-based event, offering opportunities for meeting new colleagues and academic resources, learning about their work, initiating exchanges and collaborations that can push your research and career further. This year’s PostDoc Day has been re-invented and expanded to focus on scientific collaboration and transitioning from the postdoctoral period into future careers.
For the first time we are also organizing a second complementary meeting called Life Sciences Innovation Day, which takes place on the 15th of September at ETH Zurich main building. The Innovation Day brings together leaders from academia and industry to discuss current challenges and develop new concepts for an ecosystem fostering open science and innovation. Innovation Day provides more opportunities for those seeking networks between academia, industry, and clinical medicine.
Together, these two days form the first "Open Innovation in Life Sciences" conference. These back-to-back partner events complement each other and give young researchers unique opportunities to network amongst themselves and take inspiration from leaders in academia and industry. As of fall 2018, two new members are being sought for the GRC Steering Committee, a representative of doctoral students of the Faculty of Theology and a representative of doctoral students of the Faculty of Medicine or Vetsuisse Faculty. The Steering Committee is the strategic advisory and assessment body of the Graduate Campus. Its main tasks are the assessment of grant applications (e.g. GRC Grants) and advising the Board of Directors concerning the further development of funding instruments.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) announces a call for papers for the conference ‘ASEM Education in a digital world: bridging the continents - connecting the people?’ in Cologne, Germany, 20th – 21st November 2018.
Background:
The ASEM Education Process constitutes one pillar under the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM); an informal intergovernmental forum for dialogue and exchange. During their last conference in 2017, ASEM Ministers of Education adopted the Seoul Declaration which has declared people-to-people connectivity as a key element of cooperation for the next decade. In addition, ASEM societies are moving forward as Industry 4.0 implies new chances and challenges for education, skills and employability. Hence, the conference reflects the ASEM Education priorities in the digital era. It tackles questions on how ASEM countries can learn from one another and how key instruments can be used for realizing the common vision of tangible and practical cooperation in a digital world.
Therefore, we invite proposals for papers pertaining the following topics:
1) Boosting exchange: balancing mobility between Asia and Europe through digital formats?
2) ASEM’s diversity: fostering intercultural connectivity and understanding in a digital way
3) Educational cooperation through virtual learning and blended formats: how to assure its quality?
4) Industry 4.0: new challenges for skills and competences of young students and graduates
Selected candidates receive free accommodation for the duration of the conference and travel subsidies related to the seat of the home institution. Additionally, a 500€ lump sum is awarded for each selected paper. The papers will be presented during a workshop session at the conference and published in a conference publication.
We encourage young researchers (PhD students and postdocs) of all academic fields and with an interest in Asian-European cooperation in the field of education to send their abstract (min. 400/max. 800 words) and their CV to Martin Schifferings (asem@daad.de) by September 15th, 2018. You are welcome to join us on Wednesday, 26 September, for the first Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition at UZH, an academic contest of skills and expertise in the arena of science communication. Participating PhD candidates will have only three minutes to bring their research across to a general audience. The event will start at 2PM, 26 September, in the Kunsthalle Zürich (Limmatstrasse 270), as part of the 100 Ways of Thinking exhibition.
Following the presentations we will have an awards ceremony, including both audience and jury awards, as well as an apéro to celebrate the achievements of the presenting researchers. The best presentation (selected by a jury) at the 3MT Competition at the University of Zurich will go on to compete in the international Universitas 21 3MT competition as a video submission, to be judged by an international panel consisting of industry and academic professionals.

At the end of September, the cantonal design plan "Campus Irchel" and the partial revision of the city's building and zoning regulations "Universität Zürich-Irchel" will be made publicly available for participation.

"Trans* an der UZH - was bedeutet das?"
Ziel der Veranstaltung ist in erster Linie eine Sensibilisierung zu dem Thema und die Beantwortung von Fragen wie
Was bedeutet Transidentität?
Was bedeutet es für Transmenschen, trans* zu sein?
Auf welche alltäglichen Herausforderungen und Hürden stossen Transmenschen?
Und wie kann die Universität dabei helfen, für Transmenschen faire Studien- und Arbeitsbedingungen zu schaffen?
Um Antworten auf diese Fragen zu finden, wird das Thema durch verschiedene Inputs aus vier unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und mithilfe eines Podiumgesprächs beleuchtet.
Eingeladen sind alle Interessierten, Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich.

September 2018, 18:15 bis 19:45 Uhr, diskutieren Dr. Friederike Rass (Theologin, Staatssekretariat für Bildung, Forschung und Innovation, Bern), Prof. Dr. Dieter Imboden (Emeritierter Prof. der Physik, ETH Zürich und ehem. Präsident des SNF, Zürich) und Prof. Dr. Stephan Porombka (Professor an der Universität der Künste Berlin, Kulturwissenschaftler, Kolumnist und Journalist) basierend von zugespitzen Thesen Stärken und Schwächen, Chancen und Risiken von Transdisziplinarität. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) launched its 2019 President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) on July 31, welcoming global scientific researchers to visit or join CAS for scientific research and technological innovation.
China has grown into a world-leading nation with outstanding scientific research activities and rapid growth of scientific output. CAS, China’s largest scientific research institution, has more than 70,000 full-time researchers and manages over 80 percent of the Big Science facilities in the country. It is the strongest and most advanced academic scientific research institution in China, and covers nearly all the natural science fields and related technologies.
PIFI is a CAS project specially tailored to international scientists’ visits and exchanges as well as talents introduction. It has subsidized more than 3,000 scholars from 90 countries around the world since it was launched 10 years ago. We ask those intending to apply to log on to the international talents exchange platform （http://international-talent.cas.cn/front/index.html#/bicsite/pifiIntroduce/pifi）, where they will find more details about PIFI and can look for the most suitable CAS host in their research field.
Application for 2019 PIFI opens to global researchers for Category A (distinguished scientists), Category B (visiting scientists) and Category C (postdoctoral researchers). It will be open until the end of September.
