Neues Programm der Kinder-Universität Zürich

Sagt ein Emoji mehr als tausend Worte?
Für alle Angehörigen der UZH, die ihren Kindern, Enkel- oder Patenkindern etwas Besonderes bieten möchten: Die Kinder-Universität Zürich startet mit einem neuen Programm ins Herbstsemester 2017.
In vier Vorlesungen können Schülerinnen und Schüler der 3. bis 6. Primarklasse mehr darüber erfahren, warum Parasiten krank machen, wie man eine Stadt auf dem Mars plant, was Neonatologen tun oder warum Emojis so beliebt sind.
Die Vorlesungen finden am Mittwoch-Nachmittag statt. Die Anmeldung startet am 1. September 2017.
Zusätzlich bietet die Kinder-Universität Zürich acht Workshops mit begrenzter Platzzahl an. Etwa 20 Kinder können an einem Workshop teilnehmen.
Bitte beachten Sie: Die Workshops sind sehr beliebt; die Plätze werden deshalb ausgelost.
Einer der Workshops richtet sich wiederum an Kinder, die gut Englisch sprechen. In diesem Semester geht es um die amerikanische Geschichte und die Frage: «Why Was There a War of Independence in America?»
Für die Workshops kann man sich vom 1. bis 11. September 2017 anmelden.

Einladung "Privte Vorsorge"

Werte Angehörige der Uni Zürich
Wir alle sind in verschiedenen Lebensphasen immer wieder mit wichtigen Fragen zu Vorsorge, Finanzplanung, ev. auch Wohneigentum und Ruhestand konfrontiert. Verlässliche Informationen sind dann viel wert - vor allem da man vieles falsch machen kann. Deshalb organisiert die Stiftung Benefit an der Uni Zürich die beliebten Informationsseminare. Sie helfen, potentielle Fehler auf einfache Art und Weise zu vermeiden. Dafür sprechen auch über 10'000 teilgenommene Hochschulangehörige an über 620 Veranstaltungen in der ganzen Schweiz.

Die detaillierten Inhalte der Seminare sind bei der online Anmeldung ersichtlich.
In 90 Minuten werden anhand von Praxisbeispielen wichtige Fragen und Antworten zu den folgenden Themen behandelt - je nach Lebensphase und Vorkenntnissen:

Nach einer kurzen Pause wird uns Uffe Sörensen "Social Collaboration Director - Europe, Middle-East & Africa" einen Update und News rund um Domino/Notes und Verse präsentieren. Wir freuen uns sehr, dass sich Uffe Sörensen auch in diesem Jahr für uns Zeit nimmt.
Mit diesen hochkarätigen Vertretern der IBM und Insidern rund um IBM Collaboration Software möchten wir die Gelegenheit für Kundenfragen nutzen und setzen die beiden Herren auf den heissen Stuhl wo Sie uns nochmals zur Verfügung stehen.

14.09.2017: SATW TecToday: Big Data - Big Business? 
Technik prägt unseren Alltag und hat grössere Konsequenzen, als uns meist bewusst ist. Technik ändert unsere Kommunikation, Technik verändert unsere Zukunft. Wie sollen wir damit umgehen? Die Veranstaltungsreihe TecToday gibt Antworten. Und zwar konkret zu brennenden Themen.
15.09.2017: Medien im digitalen Wandel - Fake News, Social Bots & Manipulation
Die Medien sind wie kaum eine andere Branche vom digitalen Wandel betroffen und sie haben bereits tiefgreifende Veränderungen hinter sich. Aktuelle Stichworte wie «Fake News» und «Social Bots» zeigen aber, dass die Herausforderungen für Journalisten und Medienunternehmen nicht kleiner werden. Im Zug zunehmender digitaler Manipulationsmöglichkeiten stellen sich grundlegende Fragen zur Rolle der Medien im demokratischen Diskurs.
 
Beide Veranstaltungen sind kostenlos. Aufgrund beschränkter Platzzahl benötigen Sie jedoch einen Eintrag auf der Gästeliste.

15.09.2017: Media in the Digital Transformation - Fake News, Social Bots & Manipulation
The media are highly affected by the changes due to digitalization. Although already having mastered some of the challenges, buzzwords like "Fake News" or "Social Bots" indicate that the challenges are not getting any smaller. With the increasing possibilities of digital manipulation fundamental questions are arising regarding the role of the media in the democratic discourse. 
 
Both events are free of charge. However, due to limited space an entry on the guest list is needed. Therefore, please register for the event using the links provided on the respective websites.

Dear PostDocs and PhD students,

The Life Science PostDoc day 2017  will be held at ETH Hönggerberg on 15th  September 2017. Please mark your calendar!

Registration and abstract submission are now open at the following link http://pdd.ethz.ch/ and you can check out the program in the attached flyer or on the website. Also, it is free with lunch and BBQ dinner included!

We still have 4 open slots for flash talks and a handful of spots left for posters for those who want a chance to present their work. We will make our final decisions on the 15th of August deadline for talks and posters, so we have extended the submission deadline until then for those who still wish to talk or submit a poster!

For attending, registration is mandatory and the deadline is on a 'first come first serve' basis until the room is filled. We only have a couple dozen seats left until registration is full for audience participants! Like last year, we expect there will be no space to turn up at the day of the event without (free) registration in advance.

The PDD will start at 9:00 am and run until 6:30 pm, including lunch and followed by a barbecue. Both lunch and BBQ dinner are included!

Nachdem nun die Geschäftsordnung der DSI offiziell verabschiedet wurde, werden die entsprechenden Gremien ins Leben gerufen. Dazu gehört die Plenarversammlung aller Mitglieder des DSI-Netzwerkes.
In der ersten Plenarversammlung möchten wir in den ersten 10 Minuten über Aufgaben und Rechte der Plenarversammlung informieren und die entsprechenden Formalitäten erledigen, um dann im Anschluss mit der inhaltlichen Arbeit der DSI zu beginnen. 
Bei den Community Events soll es darum gehen, dass sich die Forschenden innerhalb der Challenge Areas finden und erste Forschungsfragen und -Ideen diskutieren. Im besten Fall resultiert das dann in neuen Forschungsanträgen.
Im Vorfeld der Plenarversammlung werden wir daher einzelne DSI Netzwerk-Mitglieder anfragen, einen ersten Community Event in einem der Challenge Areas zu organisieren. Auch hier gilt, Freiwillige dürfen sich gerne melden!

H2020 Societal Challenges Event

Ende Oktober werden die Calls zum Horizon 2020 Societal Challenges 6 Programm veröffentlicht. Wir werden an diesem Event kurz über die Calls informieren – insbesondere zu Calls, bei denen wir aufgrund unserer Einschätzungen ein Potenzial für DSI-unterstützte Projekte sehen.
Im Anschluss wollen wir mit interessierten UZH Forschenden diskutieren, zu welchen Themen gemeinsame Anträge realisiert werden könnten. Die DSI-Geschäftsstelle kann dann beim Verfassen einer begrenzten Anzahl von Anträgen Unterstützung bieten.

Now that the DSI's rules of procedure have been officially adopted, the relevant committees are being set up. This includes the plenary assembly of all members of the DSI network.
In the first 10 minutes of the first plenary assembly, we would like to inform you about the tasks and rights of the plenary assembly and to carry out the needed formalities. Then we will start with the work on the DSI’s content. 
The aim of the community events is for researchers to come together within the Challenge Areas and to discuss initial research questions and ideas. At best, this will result in new research proposals.
Therefore, in the run-up to the plenary assembly we will ask individual DSI network members to organize a first community event in one of the Challenge Areas. Again, volunteers are welcome to contact us!
We will offer an Apéro at the end of this event. In order to estimate the number of participants, we’d like to ask you to register for the event: sarah.lechmann@uzh.ch

Research in Spain: Postdoctoral Fellowships Programm Junior Leader von „La Caixa“ / University of Granada: MSCA-Cofund Athenea3I Research Fellowship Programme
1)      Postdoctoral Fellowships Programm Junior Leader von „La Caixa“:
The new postdoctoral fellowships programme, Junior Leader “la Caixa”  , is aimed at hiring excellent researchers—of any nationality—who wish to continue their research career in Spanish territory on any discipline. Sponsored by Obra Social ”la Caixa”, the objectives of this programme are to foster high-quality, innovative research in Spain and to support the best scientific talents by providing them with an attractive, competitive environment in which to conduct excellent research.
The Junior Leader programme is divided into two different frames:
o    “la Caixa” Junior Leader – Incoming: 20 postdoctoral fellowships for researchers of all nationalities that must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline. They will be offered a three-year employment contract to conduct a research project at accredited centres with the Severo Ochoa or María de Maeztu distinction of excellence.
o    “la Caixa” Junior Leader – Retaining: 10 postdoctoral fellowships for researchers of all nationalities that must have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline, to carry out research at any university or research centre in Spain.
By means of a complementary training programme, these fellowships are intended to consolidate research skills and to foster an independent scientific career as an option for the future.

Sehr geehrte Forschende,
Die Universität Zürich und die Freie Universität Berlin bauen eine strategische Partnerschaft auf. Um Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler beider Hochschulen beim Aufbau neuer Initiativen oder beim Ausbau bestehender Projekte zu unterstützen, schreiben deshalb beide Universitäten ein gemeinsames Joint Seed Funding aus. The University of Zurich and Freie Universität Berlin are developing a strategic partnership. In order to foster close collaboration and strengthen existing initiatives among researchers, both institutions have established a joint seed funding scheme. The respective call is open to all subjects and disciplines. Joint proposals can be submitted twice a year. The deadlines for 2017 are May 31, 2017 or October 31, 2017, respectively.

Neues Seminar: Social Entrepreneurship

Das Seminar wird erstmals an der UZH angeboten. Es werden soziale Herausforderungen vorgestellt, die Studierende durch ein Konzept für ein Social Business lösen sollen. Die Bewertung erfolgt durch eine Jury und umfasst Konzept, Geschäftsplan, Realisierbarkeit der Idee, Marktpotential, soziale Wirkung und Investitionsbereitschaft. Das am besten bewertete Konzept erhält eine Anschubfinanzierung für das Social Business.

New seminar: Social Entrepreneurship

This seminar is a new offering by UZH. It presents social challenges that students have to solve through a social business. Students are evaluated by a panel of judges on the basis of their pitch and of their business plan, assessing product viability, market potential, social impact and willingness to invest. The top-rated social business idea receives seed funding to start the business.

Target group: Master students of all departments, students of the OEC faculty can book the seminar directly

About the Summer School
The Off The Beaten Track program started in 2006 and is now - with 24 editions over the past 12 years - the longest standing anthropology field school in the world. Our basecamp is located on the islet of Gozo, one of the three inhabited islands of the Maltese Archipelago in the heart of the Mediterranean. The program offers a unique opportunity to acquire 'in the field' experience. The islands present a balance of past and present, where rural Mediterranean traditions intersect with foreign influence in small villages.
The Malta Summer School international faculty and staff help connect students and locals. They facilitate and monitor the progress of each student's project and guide all interested participants through the process of publishing the results of their research. The program is residential and conducted in English.

The participants
The field school is directed towards young anthropologists and cultural scientists; however, any individual who would like to learn about anthropological research and fieldwork is welcome. Previous knowledge or experience is not required. We aim for an individually tailored program that can start at any level. Even PhD research (or pre-research) can be included and guided. The school has a strong socio-cultural focus, but any topic can be covered in the individual program of the student. Each session has a maximum of 16 participants with a 2:1 student to staff ratio. Places are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis to suitably qualified candidates.
Price
The tuition fee is 3,250.00 euros.
This fee includes:
• Full Board (accommodation, food, drinks)
• All program related activities
• Official Attendance certificate and transcript
• Supervision with fieldwork analysis and in the write-up stages
