Nachhaltigkeitswoche 2017

Liebe Hochschulangehörige der UZH

Wir möchten Sie herzlich einladen, die Nachhaltigkeitswoche 2017 zwischen dem 6. bis 11. März zu besuchen.
Bereits zum fünften Mal findet die Nachhaltigkeitswoche (NHW) der Zürcher Hochschulen ETH, UZH, ZHdK, ZHAW und PHZH statt. Über 80 Studierende haben sich an der Organisation der diesjährigen NHW beteiligt. Das diesjährige Programm bietet mit seinen rund 40 Veranstaltungen und Projekten zur sozialen, ökonomischen und ökologischen Nachhaltigkeit für alle Studienrichtungen etwas spannendes. Dabei möchten wir zum Nachdenken, Diskutieren und Aktivwerden anregen.

could you please spread the word about the new free online courses produced by UZH and offered by Coursera? You might have seen the press release about them:

Prof. Owen Petchey and I (Susanne Schulmeister) have created the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) "Biodiversity and Global Change: Science & Action“ for anyone who wants to learn about biodiversity science including ecology and evolutionary biology. The 42 short video lectures are about biodiversity, biodiversity science, global change including climate change, and conservation, and are taught by 24 scientists of the University of Zurich. So this course is also a good way to get informed about some of the research being done at UZH. 

There are also courses about „Teaching Science at University“ and „An Intuitive introduction to Probability“.

Watching the videos and doing the assessments is free. This is called auditing the course. If you want to take part in the two assignments and get a certificate at the end of the course, which you can mention in your CV and add to your LinkedIn account, there is a small fee.

The start of the Biodiversity and Global Change MOOC is February 27. It is possible to join the course a little late and it will also be repeated several times.  

It takes about 1-2 hours per week to watch the videos and to do the assessments and assignments. All videos and course materials are in English. Videos have subtitles in English and can be viewed at slower (or faster) speed if desired.

YOUNG RESEARCHERS’ EXCHANGE PROGRAM

BETWEEN JAPAN AND SWITZERLAND 2017

In its function as the Swiss Leading House for Asia, ETH Zurich is happy to announce the launch of a new call for the exchange of young researchers (PhD students, young postdocs and master students in exceptional cases) between Japan and Switzerland together with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).  The grants will allow Swiss young scientists to spend 3-6 months of research in a Japanese partner laboratory or vice-versa Japanese scientists to perform 3-6 months of research in Switzerland; grants cover international travel and living allowance.  The respective guidelines and application form are attached and can also be found on our website: https://www.ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zurich/global/funding-opportunities/swiss-bilateral-programmes/japan.html. The call is open to all scientific disciplines including social sciences and humanities and to researchers from all Swiss universities, universities of applied sciences and research institutes.
Please observe that Japanese candidates will have to apply to JSPS. Deadline for applications is 19 May 2017.

The Tourism Research Institute (T.R.I.) is organizing the 6th International Conference on Tourism and Hospitality Management that will take place on June 1^st to June 3^rd of 2017, in Athens, Greece.

The conference is organized under the Auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, and the support of the:

University of Applied Sciences of Athens, Greece 

University of Alexandria, Egypt

Huxley College of the Western Washington University, USA 

IMI University Centre, Lucerne, Switzerland

University of Aegean, Greece

The aim of this conference is to provide an opportunity to academics and researchers, professionals of tourism, and particulars from all around the world, to meet, exchange ideas and collaborate.

We would like to invite researchers, academics, practitioners, and experts to present papers and/or posters.

The presented papers will be published in the proceedings of the conference and in a special edition of the “Journal of Tourism Research” (info here+ ).
